Gaze, Space and Movement
“I think of seeing. There’s more to it than meets the eye.I think of vision and movement. One gives rise to the other”
Lucía Sánchez
Lucía has taught contemporary dance since 2008 and CI since 2011. She currently works mainly at La Mimosa, her home/project where she teaches and organizes regular classes and workshops.
She also organizes CI gatherings (Danzas Magas and Danzas Mayas), the Inmersiones Contact Improvisation Festival, and intensive workshops. From the moment CI crossed my path, something deep inside knew this was for me.
This certainty has been an inexhaustible engine of curiosity, pleasure, learning, motivation, and personal transformation. At this moment, Contact Improvisation, Somatics, and Nature are my medicine, my catalyst, my ground, my wings.
It is through teaching that I feel I contribute something important and beautiful to the world, and it is in community where I love and feel loved, where I grow, face challenges, and marvel at the great potential that emerges when we co-create together.
Gaze, Space and Movement
"I think of the eyes. Many moving parts. I think of seeing. There’s more to it than meets the eye.I thinnk of vision and movement. One gives rise to the other. Dialogue comes to mind. That’s how I experience their wedding. And how I experience my dancing—within my body and in society with people, things, and space"
- Excerpt from the article "Before Your Eyes. Seeds of a Dance Practice" by Lisa Nelson
We will explore movement with eyes closed and eyes open.
We will explore different ways of looking, seeing, and reading movement.
Watching people in motion and being watched while we move.
We will try to read the signals of space that remain invisible to the eyes.
The gaze as inspiration and inquiry to nourish our dances and our imagination.
The gaze as a resource to train, opening pathways in both body and mind.
